Assignment 5

When I read lifelike by Susan Orlean, I did not like the article at all. I don't believe in taxidermy. But I am trying to understand the article. I think Susan is very invlove in taxidermy, trying to get information from them by going to the competition, talking with them, seeing what they do. I think when she wrote this article, she is trying to convince people that taxidermy is art, and it is a profession not a strange hobby. But she has a weird way of showing it because she does wrote some things that would make me mad, and not want to continue read this article.

  1. Crystal, I agree with what you are saying. If she wanted us all to realize that taxidermy is an "art" she has a very odd way of showing it. Do you think there is a better way she could have gotten her point across to you?

  2. Excellent first reactions. I'm glad you commented on the tension you felt while reading. Next I want you to think about using the text to help you explain what you mean. So when you say, "I think when she wrote this article, she is trying to convince people that taxidermy is art, and it is a profession not a strange hobby" I'd like to see an example or two. The same goes for that last line--which is the most intriguing!--where you say she does it in a weird way. Perhaps for your Assignment 6: Choices you could discuss those weird ways a little bit further.
